Amazing AOMORI

BASAMA’s Kitchen offers interactive cooking experiences in which participants prepare dishes under the guidance of a basama (the word for “grandma” in the Tsugaru dialect) in an old-fashioned Aomori-style farmhouse. The menu varies by season but consists mainly of traditional regional dishes like kenoshiru, a soup of chopped vegetables and tofu simmered in miso. You can learn about the effort that goes into the dishes, seasonal ingredients, and Aomori’s agriculture as well as the time-honored wisdom of basama while actually preparing the dishes yourself.

The experiences are based on plant-derived ingredients, so vegetarians and vegans can enjoy them with peace of mind. The program also flexibly accommodates menu requests due to allergies or religious concerns such as halal.

Since the experiences are conducted in English, participants don’t need any Japanese ability. Also, the experiences are completely private, so you can enjoy them at your own pace.
