Tsurukameya Shokudo
Tuna rice bowls with generous portions, topped with mountains of tuna!
Tsurukameya Shokudo is a retro oceanside Japanese-cafeteria-style restaurant located within walking distance of Asamushi-Onsen Station. Known for its large portions and high-quality seafood, it draws crowds of locals and tourists alike.
One of the most popular items on the menu is the tuna rice bowl. Brimming with thick slices of tuna sashimi, its spectacular appearance is sure to stun first-time patrons. The dish comes in three sizes: “mini,” “small,” and “medium.” The “medium” size looks like a veritable mountain of tuna with almost twenty slices. Even in the smallest “mini” size, the rice is completely hidden under a hearty serving of thick slices.

But it’s not just that the portions are generous. The tuna procured by Tsurukameya Shokudo is fresh and high in quality, consisting mainly of tuna from Aomori Prefecture’s Oma, the most famous source of tuna in Japan. The walls and ceiling of the restaurant are completely plastered with stickers certifying the origins of the tuna it has purchased, a visual testament to the attention it pays to the sourcing of its seafood. The other seafood menu items also use fresh seafood from Aomori Prefecture’s abundant fishing grounds such as Mutsu Bay, meaning the restaurant never compromises on the quality of its seafood.
In addition to tuna rice bowls, the menu includes many other tasty seafood dishes like the seasonal sea-urchin rice bowl and fresh seafood tempura. All come in generous portions, so if you visit with friends or family members, you may want to try each ordering a different menu item and enjoy sharing various seafood dishes.
