Mutsu Hassen (Hachinohe Shuzo Co., Ltd.)
Local sake from the world’s leading brewery
Hachinohe Shuzo is a veteran brewery established in 1775. Its brick and earthen storehouses and wooden shop/main building, which were constructed during the Taisho period (1912–1926), have been registered as a tangible cultural property by the Japanese government and designated as important landscape architecture by Hachinohe City.
The brewery prides itself on its health-conscious and environmentally friendly sake made from Aomori-grown organic rice and yeast.
Its classic brands are Mutsu Otokoyama, a dry sake loved by local fishermen, and Mutsu Hassen, which features a rich, fruity aroma and fresh taste.
In 2021, the brewery took first place in the “World Sakagura Ranking,” a global ranking of sake breweries.
The brewery offers tours of its sake brewing facilities and process in order to help visitors become more familiar with the history of sake brewing in Hachinohe and the culture of Japanese sake. Tasting sessions are also available at the tasting counter.
