Amazing AOMORI

Minatotto is a seafood market located in Hachinohe City next to the Tatehana Wharf Morning Market, the largest morning market in Japan. Since Minatotto is directly run by the JF Hachinohe Port Fisheries Cooperative, it sells a wide variety of fresh seafood landed in Aomori Prefecture, along with handmade salted dried fish, local homestyle side dishes, and more. The market is always packed with locals and tourists alike.

Fresh seafood isn’t the only specialty at Minatotto.

Since April 2023, the restaurant “Senpachi” inside the facility has been selling “Nokkerodon” seafood rice bowls that have generated a lot of attention in the news and on social media.

Simply choose your favorites from among several dozen varieties of toppings including lots of fresh locally caught seafood, serve them over a bowl of rice, and your “Nokkerodon” is complete. How about creating your very own colorful seafood rice bowl? Post your “Nokkerodon” to social media, and you’re sure to have a wonderful memory of your Aomori trip.

Minatotto also offers an extensive hands-on program.

A sushi-making workshop is held once a month, in which you can experience how to make hand-pressed sushi topped with seasonal fish under the guidance of a real sushi chef. In addition to making sushi, the 90-minute program is packed with experiences like learning how to slice sashimi, make vinegared rice, and clean fish, as well as tasting different sushi made by a professional chef.
