Rafting on the Iwaki River
An invigorating rafting experience surrounded by nature in Shirakami Sanchi
The Iwaki River emerges from pure headwaters in Shirakami Sanchi, a natural World Heritage site that is home to one of the largest old-growth beech forests in East Asia. How about joining a rafting tour down this river?
The tours, which entail paddling a raft for about an hour and a half amid a beautiful valley, are an activity that takes advantage of the stunning natural scenery of Nishimeya Village. Enjoy the scenery at a leisurely pace in parts where the river is gentle and experience a thrilling sense of speed on the rapids. On hot summer days, you can also enjoy splashing around at the river’s edge or plunging into the water from a diving spot about four meters in height. In autumn, when temperatures turn cooler, you can feel close to the beauty of nature while surrounded by colorful foliage.
On breaks during the tour, participants are treated to Aomori apple juice. Moments of relaxation amid the great outdoors with a breeze blowing across the surface of the river, surrounded by mountain vistas and the sounds of birds chirping, are an unparalleled luxury.
What awaits you at the end of the tour is a hot-spring bath with water flowing fresh from the source. The tour includes a ticket that allows you to use hot-spring facilities in Nishimeya Village free of charge. A hot-spring bath after your rafting tour will relax and recharge you both physically and mentally.
A lecture on rafting provided by a professional guide before the tour and rental of life jackets and wetsuits allow even beginners to feel at ease. Participants can also receive photos taken by staff during the tour as souvenirs.
From a natural World Heritage site to local hot springs, this tour that allows you to experience the culture of the region to the fullest is an experience you won’t want to miss.
