Ichigoni

Hachinohe is blessed with sea urchin and abalone from the Pacific Ocean. Ichigoni is a soup made of fresh sea urchin and abalone. “Ichigo” means “strawberry”, and it was so named since sea urchins in a cloudy broth looked like wild strawberries. The soup with a hint of Shiso herb is a savory dish. Ichigoni is usually served in New Year Holidays and in celebrations.
