6kaku Coffee
Specialty coffee brewed by a former professional charcoal maker
6kaku Coffee is a coffee shop located in the Konakano district of Hachinohe City, once known as “the Shanghai of northeastern Japan” due to its prosperity. The renovated building was originally constructed in 1895. It formerly served as an inn, and traces of historic Japanese architecture can still be seen in its elegantly vaulted interior, which has a high ceiling and two floors. The first floor has bar-counter-style seating with a chic ambience, while the second floor is a sunlit open space where Japanese calligraphy and paintings are on display, creating an ambience like that of an art gallery.
Immersed in Japanese historic architecture and culture, the shop serves specialty coffee that the owner, who used to be a professional charcoal maker, brews from organic coffee beans carefully hand-roasted over a charcoal grill. Slowly roasting the beans over carefully selected charcoal with the owner’s exclusive technique brings out their rich, full-bodied flavor and slightly bitter sweetness, resulting in coffee the likes of which you can’t taste anywhere else.
Not only the coffee but also the shop’s sweets are carefully prepared with all-organic ingredients like chocolate and green tea, preserving the natural flavors of the ingredients.
