Amazing AOMORI

At the Hakkoda Mountains, beautiful red and yellow autumn foliage of Japanese maple and rowan can be seen during fall. Many visitors come during the peak coloring season at the end of September through October. The Hakkoda Ropeway allows visitors to climb the summit of Tamoyachidake peak of North Hakkoda, an elevation of 1320 meter (4330 feet). The view from the ropeway is superb. On a clear sunny day, one can see as far as the Tsugaru plains, Mutsu Bay, and even Hokkaido. From the summit park station, the Hakkoda gold line hiking trail leads to the Mutsu Bay observation deck and the Tamoyachi Marsh. It makes for a great hike on a sunny day. 

Jogakura Ohashi Bridge

Jogakura Ohashi Bridge is the largest truss arch bridge in Japan with the length of 360 meters (1181 feet). The length between the arch abutments extend to 255 m (836 feet), making it the longest in Japan. The 120-meter altitude view of the fall leaves of beech, oak, maple, and birch on the Jogakura Valley is excellent. The peak season is around mid-October. 

Jogakura Gorge

As part of the Towada Hachimantai National Park, the Jogakura gorge has remained mostly untouched. For seven months of the year (November through May), the gorge is engulfed in several meters of snow. The waters of the gorge are acidic, making it uninhabitable for any fish. The gorge is fascinating because of its natural inhospitable conditions. 

Tsuta Numa Lake

Tsuta Numa is one of the seven Tsuta Seven Lakes (Tsuta Nana Numa), and is surrounded by a deep virgin beech forest. During the fall season, many visitors come to see the impressive sight of the lake by the brightly colored mountains. 

Suiren Numa Pond

Suiren, water lilies, blossom beautifully around this marsh, thus giving its name of Suiren Numa. Among the many marshlands of Hakkoda Mountains, this particular pond is especially majestic. The reflection of the Hakkoda Mountains on the clear water is exceptional during the autumn season.

Hakkoda General Information Center

The Hakkoda General Information Center is located in the premises of the Hakkoda Ropeway, giving out tourism information about the Hakkoda area as well as Aomori city and the prefecture.
