Historic Site Korekawa Stone Age Site

This is a Jomon period archaeological site located on southeastern area in Hachinohe City. The site, approximately 376,000 square meters, was designated as a National Historic Site in 1957.
This site is called as “Korekawa Stone Age Site”, which consists of three sub-sites, “Nakai Site”, “Ichioji Site” and “Hotta Site.
There are about 4,000 unearthed articles known as the excellent artifacts. The Korekawa Archaeological Institution (Korekawa Jomon Kan) displays those such as Gassyo Dogu (clay figures with clasping hands) designated as a National Treasure in 2009.

The museum exhibits numerous valuable artifacts excavated from the Korekawa Jōmon Archaeological Site and the Kazahari No.1 Site, including the National Treasure "Gassho Dogu" (clay figurine with hands in prayer), vividly lacquered items, and elegant pottery and figurines. In addition, special exhibitions and themed displays are held throughout the year, along with a variety of Jomon-era hands-on workshops and lectures. At the on-site "Kore Café," visitors can enjoy light meals and purchase merchandise and sweets.
