Munakata Shiko Memorial Museum of Art
棟方志功記念館
Munakata Shiko Memorial Museum of Art was opened on November 17, 1975 to honor the work of Munakata Shiko, who was born in Aomori City. The museum, located in the center of Aomori City, is built in the form of a schoolhouse with a very composed atmosphere in harmony with the Japanese garden on its grounds. Most of his early to middle period works are on display here.
About Munakata Shiko
He was born September 5, 1903 and died September 13, 1975 in Tokyo at the age of 72.
He is buried in San-nai Reien 16th zone, Aomori City.
