Tsugaru Railway

津軽鉄道

Japan’s northernmost private railway, still chugging along to this day

This railway travels leisurely across about 20.7 kilometers of the Tsugaru Plain, connecting Tsugaru Goshogawara and Tsugaru Nakasato in about 45 minutes. It operates “Stove Trains” equipped with potbellied stoves in winter, “Furin Trains” decorated with wind chimes in summer, and “Suzumushi Trains” featuring the sound of bell crickets in fall.
