Michinoku Coastal Trail (Tanesashi Coast Section)
A unique coastal trail!
The Michinoku Coastal Trail is a long trail stretching about 1,000 kilometers from Kabushima Island in Hachinohe City to Soma City in Fukushima Prefecture. It was developed as a symbol of recovery from the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
The Tanesashi Coast section extends a total of twelve kilometers from Kabushima Island, one of the starting/ending points of the trail, to Okuki Fishing Port. This section of the trail is gentle without many hills, making it easy for inexperienced hikers.
Walk at a leisurely pace to enjoy stunning and diverse sights such as beautiful rocky reefs blooming with seasonal flowers, a beach with rare “singing sand,” and a natural lawn stretching all the way to the water’s edge.
To explore the coast more conveniently, you can also use “Umineko” sightseeing buses and bicycle rental.
Information about the trail is available at the Tanesashi Kaigan Information Center, which sells official trail maps.
