“Nanbu Tekki (Nanbu ironware)” is a traditional craft in the Tohoku Region, boasting approximately 400 years history.
Additions to traditional products like cha-no-yugama (tea kettle for tea ceremony) or tetsubin (iron tea pot), various new items suitable for modern life with keeping traditional goodness, such as kitchenware, wind-bell, ashtray, and housing are produced. Nanbu Tekki has high efficiency of thermal storage, superior thermal property and good thermal efficiency, and has feature that ironware supply iron nutrition for meals.
A designing company in Aomori collaborated with traditional Nanbu Tekki method and produced an okiagari-koboushi (round-bottomed doll) “Tetscco”. The Okiagari-koboushi, a craft with approximately 400 years history, is known as a good-luck charm for “Shichiten-hakki (life is full of ups and down)”, it is said to a symbol of perseverance and life because it returns to an upright position if it is knocked over again and again.
